While 2014’s holiday season certainly wasn’t a disappointment, many are well aware that the really good stuff isn’t set to drop until the first quarter of the year, 2015. Needless to say, this is primed to be a really important period, with 8th generation consoles just now hitting their stride with all sorts of super-charged games and various other titles (which have been mercilessly teasing us up to this point) soon to be released as well. Rather than throwing out a barrage of 2015 favorites, we thought it best to treat you to a special list which only highlights the top games coming in January, so here they are presented in no particular order…
Resident Evil HD remaster
When most people think about survival horror, especially its origins, the name Resident Evil often crops up. I mean, let’s face it, that particular series which includes the first entry which started it all, well…….started it all, didn’t it? Now it seems as though the remake (which itself was/is brilliant) is getting a remaster for HD consoles. It’s basically one of those titles that you absolutely must play if you haven’t, it will keep you on the edge of your seat with its classic, creepy-mansion -fueled gameplay and hellishly weird zombies / enemies. Even if you’ve already experienced it, keep in mind that it’s probably been quite a while since you last experienced it so another go around isn’t overdoing it at all. Likewise, it’s going to be released at a reduced price, which only further sweetens the deal. …Definitely a must-buy for the true horror fan.
Dying Light
Of all the games that people are currently holding their breath for, Dying Light is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated. Basically taking the approach pioneered in series like Dead Island, this offering is set to combine amazing visuals and a very large world with all sorts of customization and refined gameplay. In the end we’re left with a set of mechanics which seems to offer lots of different possibilities within a tropical world suffering in the midst of a full-on zombie apocalypse. Some people have even been adding that owning Dying light basically eliminates the need to purchase multiple other titles being released in the upcoming year, which means even more great reasons to expect great things. In fact, many have already publicly stated that this might very well be one of the top games releases for the entire year.
Grand Theft Auto V for PC
GTA V has already pretty much dominated the scene, at least on the console front. Now, it’s going to get a chance to do the same within the PC environment, which has been seriously neglected. If the sales figures associated with the game are any indication then it’s safe to assume that GTA V is definitely going to be a big hit for Windows as well, what’s more, lots of crazy mods are likely to follow too. As you are all no doubt well aware, games don’t really get the full-on customized treatment until they land for PC, so this will be very interesting indeed, not just for gamers on that platform, but for all of us who like watching Let’s Play series on Youtube as well.
Saints Row IV: Re-Elected / Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell
The impending release of Saints Row IV: Re-Elected marks an introduction onto new generation consoles and a marked improvement over the original game’s outing in almost every way imaginable. Basically, this is going to be a better-looking SRIV that also adds a “ridiculous” amount of new as well as existing content to the mix which means that you’ll be busy with it for hours, days, even weeks or more. At the same time, the new addition “Gat out of Hell” is on its way, which places you in the shoes of the legendary Johnny Gat (or alternatively, Kenzie Kensington) as you go up against none other than Satan himself. It’s primed to be an amazing experience that’s nearly unbeatable in terms of pure fun and value.
Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires
Lastly, we come to Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires, which is yet another entry in a long and storied series. This time around you’ll be able to create your own character to take into battle, which should provide fans with more than enough reasons to run out and get it as soon as it’s available. But the fun doesn’t end there; you’ll also be able to do things like raise a family and secure a line of succession as well as engage in cooperative play online. Clearly this is going to be one of the best entries in the series, doubly so since it’s going to available on a range of different platforms.
