It’s September and the year is almost finishing, but that does not mean that we must be sad; it’s quite the opposite, because usually the best video games or the biggest surprised are released in the last months of the year.
This year has been absurdly good in terms of video games, and the best thing is that despite we are in the final months of the year, a lot of AAA video games will be release in the next 3 months, and that is exactly today’s topic. Today we are going to rank the 10 best upcoming video games in 2023 so get ready because we are ready.
10. Cities: Skylines 2 (PS5, Xbox Series X, PC) – October 24, 2023
To be fair, Cities: Skylines is one of those video games that didn’t necessarily need a sequel but it’s something that we deeply wanted for a long time.
The developers Paradox Interactive released a lot of content for the first game to go alongside a lot of mods created by the community so it wouldn’t be a surprise the Cities: Skylines 2 will be something huge that will mesmerize us and will make us addict to it. Cities: Skylines is one of those games you play when you want to relax, so I am pretty sure that this second game will be even better than the first one.
9. Persona 5 Tactica (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, Nintendo Switch) – November 17, 2023
I have never ever played a Persona game before, but every time I ask about the series, everyone says it is a masterpiece. Persona 5 came out in 2016 and since then, it developed a cult following extremely big and loyal, and because of that a lot of video games based on Persona 5 were released, but this one: Persona 5 Tactica, is the one that I think has the most potential because of the old-school tactical turn-based RPG.
The weakest part in Persona games has always been the combat, and I am sure that a game like this will fix all the problems.
8. Mortal Kombat 1 (PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, Nintendo Switch) – September 14, 2023
Mortal Kombat is one of those video games that everybody has played at least once in their life and when the last game, 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11 was positioned as the last chapter of the NetherRealm arc, we instantly knew that we needed another Mortal Kombat video games as soon as possible.
The entirely Mortal Kombat canon universe was reordered in the MK11’s credits and we needed some answers and Mortal Kombat 1 will give us those answers. I have high hopes in this new game, MK11 was great but I firmly think that MK1 will be even better and even more fun.
7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, PC) – November 10, 2023
The last part of the new Modern Warfare trilogy, we totally knew that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 would be released this year and, personally, I can’t wait to finally play this game and have more fun than ever.
MW3 will give us the opportunity to play all sixteen maps from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, both classic modes “Kill Confirmed” and “Hardpoint” will return alongside a new mode called “Cutthroat” and the zombie mode will be the biggest one to date because it will be an open world PvE mode. This will be an entirely new experience.
6. Payday 3 (PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, Linux) – September 21, 2023
The news about the upcoming Payday 3 did catch us out of guard because no one was expecting this but we were so happy; the Payday series is extremely fun and unique. The Payday is without a doubt the most famous bank-robbery simulator and playing it with your friends is one of the best online experiences you could have.
Payday 3 is arriving a decade after Payday 2 and it’s being said that this game will be huge; way bigger than the previous two. The game will take place after Payday 2 where the heisters went separate ways but something motivates them to reunite the Payday Gang.
5. Spider-Man 2 (PS5) – October 20, 2023
The first exclusive on this list, Spider-Man 2 is the evidence that we are living in the Spider-Verse and we couldn’t be happier about it. The first PS5’s Spider-Man game was great and it was a contender for the Game of the Year award, but after watching both the trailer and the gameplay of this game, we knew that this would be better.
We will be able to play with both Miles Morales and Peter Parker in this new adventure, also we will be able to play with Peter when bonded to the Venom symbiote. The sad thing is that this game will be exclusive for the PlayStation 5.
4. Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Nintendo Switch) – October 20, 2023
This next one is also an exclusive. After the success of both Super Mario Odyssey and The Super Mario Bros Movie it was obvious that Nintendo would be bringing us another Mario game to capitalize the blockbuster. Nintendo went old-school with this one because it returned to the classic side-scrolling platform style we were used to and haven’t seen since 2012’s New Super Mario Bros. U.
This video game will also support local multiplayer for up to four players, meaning that you can enjoy this while playing with your friends. This game will also feature a dynamic level design, meaning that you can interact with objects that can move or alter the level.
3. Alan Wake 2 (PS5, Xbox Series X, PC) – October 27, 2023
Remedy Entertainment surprised everyone when they decided to release the second part of 2010’s Alan Wake, a game that gained a big cult following throughout the years. It was a big surprise because the previously worked on a sequel that was cancelled and later became the basis for Quantum Break, but after they released the Control’s DLC called AWE, we knew that something about Alan Wake was in the works.
Alan Wake 2 follows Saga Anderson, an FBI agent who is sent to Bright Falls to investigate the killings and the disappearance of Alan Wake.
2. Forza Motorsport (Xbox Series X and Series S, PC) – October 10, 2023
I will always consider Burnout 3: Takedown as the best racing video game ever made, but Forza Motorsport will be a strong contender for that spot. The Forza series is a masterpiece and this hard reboot have me intrigued, because I really don’t know what else they can add to the series to make it even more flawless.
Forza Horizon 5 was astonishing, it will be hard to make a racing simulator better than that one, but I have no doubts about Turn 10 Studios who have developed the Motorsport franchise since 2005. The game will feature more than 500 vehicles.
1. Assassin’s Creed Mirage (PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC) – October 5, 2023
The Assassin’s Creed saga became an RPG since the release of Assassin’s Creed Origins, leaving behind the stealthier approach featured in the first games of this franchise. This is not something bad because it brought more fans to the series, but it also upset die-hard fans a little bit.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be a return to the series’ roots, with a bigger focus on stealth gameplay and a more linear storytelling. The game will follow Basim Ibn Ishaq, a street thief who lives in the 9th-century Baghdad during the anarchy at Samarra.
