We’ve thrown about some rumors over the last two years surrounding the possibly of a upcoming Command and Conquer game. The signals were in place suggesting that EA would extend the series and this was recently confirmed thanks to an announcement by the company.
It seems fair to say that fans of this long series haven’t enjoyed what EA has offered since it took over from Westwood Studios. Red Alert 3 was a decent game, later destroyed online by EA’s decision to pull the servers, meaning online play wasn’t possible unless you used a community created alternative. Certainly a bad move from EA, since this type of game is best enjoyed when in multiplayer mode.
Then, of course, we had the excitement of Command and Conquer Generals 2, a game that was being developed, later to be cancelled due to the fans anger at the free-to-play structure that the game was to employ.
Earlier in 2018, Command & Conquer: Rivals was announced, certainly a title that would have fans interested, that was until they learned it was merely a tablet / smartphone game. More anger. More frustration. More torture. Well, that was until EA finally listened to the community and unveiled some truly exciting news. Ready? Let’s move on to it.
The classics of which defined the series will be returning, they’ll be remastered with stunning visuals, supported with 4K resolution. EA isn’t sure as to how deep they’ll customize these games, they’re asking the community for advice on this one, so be sure to voice your opinion regarding what features you’d love to see. EA aren’t sure as to how far they should alter the core gameplay, and whether to add new features. For example, they may opt to mirror exactly what the those classics offered, just with visuals. On the other hand, they may opt to alter things dramatically, make it a little unrecognizable. EA wants fans to voice what they would like to see.
Since the series will hit a 25th anniversary in 2020, it seems likely that we’ll see these remasters release early in 2020.
With many games in the Command and Conquer series, which classics are returning? EA confirmed that they will be Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Command & Conquer: Red Alert combined with all three expansion packs. These will all appear as one remastered collection – without microtransactions. Online multiplayer will be the core of gameplay, bringing alive online excitement via battles and strategy. Engineer rush anyone? Ah, those memories will once again become alive.
If these games are greeted positively, it’s believed that EA will march on wards and release more classics whilst also considering the next game of which is on EA’s radar; Red Alert 4.
Are you excited? We sure are. We’d like to thank EA for finally seeing that the demand is here for such a title. If EA get this right, they’ll turn sour fans into extremely happy fans. It won’t be long before we get to see what EA’s team can do, we expect these titles to release early 2020.
