The video game industry in the last 10 years gave us a lot of videogames that will be remembered forever. Spanning more than a thousand games and three console generations, from 2013 to 2023 is considered one of the best moments to be a gamer.
If doesn’t matter if you are a PC gamer or if you prefer video game consoles, throughout these 10 years, the industry gave us masterpieces for any console in existence, including mobile games. Today we are going to rank the 10 best video games of the last years, so sit back, take a soda and enjoy the list.
10. Pokemon Go
Yeah, I know what are you thinking but this is not a joke. The 2010s was the decade when mobile gaming established itself as an important and legitimate part in gaming around the world, and Pokemon Go itself played a big part on it.
Right now, Pokemon Go is not as popular as 5 years ago, but there was a moment when its peak of popularity was so high that the game was mentioned in a government convention. The game is still relevant to these days, and is considered one of the most important mobile games around.
9. Fortnite
If we compare Fortnite to a fictional character, it would be Thanos because the game is inevitable. It doesn’t matter if you are interested in Fortnite or not, because the moment you start playing the game, you will love it to death. The game has been evolving since its launch and with every update it receives, the better the game becomes.
Currently, Fortnite is synonymous with the gaming industry and the game it’s showing 0 signs of stopping. Furthermore, the game played a significant role in the growing popularity of the battle royale genre.
8. Elden Ring
Elden Ring was the result of the combination of the brilliant mind of George R.R. Martin and the Hidetaka Miyazaki’s acclaimed direction, and as we all imagined, it was amazing. While the narrative doesn’t make any sense at all, the game is fun and welcoming despite the punishing and high difficulty, in fact, the hardest boss in the Souls series is featured here in Elden Ring.
The gameplay is amazing and the open world, despite being a little bit confusing, is great because almost any place you visit will show you something. Elden Ring is great.
7. Super Mario Odyssey
The Mario franchise is eternal, and while in some moments it showed signs of slowing down, Mario came back thanks to the universally acclaimed Super Mario Odyssey. Super Mario Odyssey is a video game that took familiar elements from previous Mario games and injected them with new life creating something entirely different.
The other good thing is that it doesn’t matter if you are 10, 20, or 30 years old, you will enjoy it, that is the magic of the Super Mario video games. Without a doubt, the best Mario entry since the Galaxy days.
6. Grand Theft Auto V
Grand Theft Auto 5 is responsible of selling 169 million units, and the entire GTA franchise has sold 380 million units; that means that GTA V is responsible for selling nearly half of the amount. Grand Theft Auto V is considered the biggest video game outside of Minecraft, and GTA is still getting updates in order to bring us new features to never bore us.
We are confident that Grand Theft Auto 6 will eclipse everything GTA V gave us, because the only thing that can outshine a GTA video game is another GTA video game.
5. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
While this video game didn’t invent the open-world genre, in fact, it didn´t even came close to creating it, but The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt executed the genre to perfection. And the curious thing is that the word “perfection” doesn’t do The Witcher 3 justice.
The Witcher 3 has it all. It doesn’t matter where you go, you will always find the unexpected, whether is a quest or a simple dialogue, you will always find something. Also, its two DLCs are considered one of the best DLCs of all time and also, they make the game more immersive.
4. God of War
The God of War saga was always amazing, and when SIE Santa Monica Studio rebooted the franchise back in 2018, they blew us away. Considered since its release as one of the best video games of all time, 2018’s God of War is a masterpiece and one of the most important games for PlayStation 4.
The story changed a little bit for this one because present us an older Kratos living in the Nordic regions, so we won’t see any Greek gods in this game, but we can say that this new world is as good as the previous one.
3. The Last of Us
The Last of Us 2 was very good, but nothing will ever beat the first one. Naughty Dog gave us narrative-driven video games like Uncharted, but it wasn’t until The Last of Us that they reached their peak. The Last of Us is often considered the most important video game of its generation because of its story, gameplay, and innovation.
The game was later remastered for both the PS4 and PS4 Pro and then remade for the PlayStation 5 and in reality, it doesn’t matter which version you play, the game is still amazing.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Legend of Zelda is one of those few examples of a video game franchise so good that it’s extremely hard to decide which game is the best one. Well, Breath of the Wild is one of the best video games in the franchise, and of all time.
Breath of the Wild has sold over nearly 26 million units since its release, meaning that the Zelda franchise is as strong as ever. Breath of the Wild without a doubt is one of the most immersive open-world video games ever made and a strong contender for the best Zelda video game.
1. Red Dead Redemption 2
For me, Red Dead Redemption 2 is not only the best video game of the last 10 years but the greatest video game ever made and also, the first video game that I don’t want to complete. RDR2 is a special case of a videogame that had sky-high expectations before release and when it was released the game met all expectations and even exceeded them.
Rockstar Games knows perfectly how to craft a masterpiece because creating something better than the first RDR was hard. Red Dead Redemption is a love letter to the video game industry.
