The best Ubisoft games are a fascinating topic. Ubisoft is one of the most famous and biggest video game developers out there, and while they received a lot of criticism for relying on old franchise games instead of creating new IPs, a lot of their games are classics and highly rated.
The good thing about Ubisoft is that there’s a lot of variety; you have stealth games, family-friendly games, single-player games, multiplayer games, and more. It has spawned the Assassin’s Creed series, the Splinter Cell series, the Watch Dogs series, and many more.
So, today, we are going to rank the 15 best Ubisoft video games of all time. So, let’s begin!
The best Ubisoft games of all time!
15. Assassin’s Creed Origins
If there’s one thing Ubisoft likes, it’s origins, as Assassin’s Creed Origins and Rayman Origins prove (alright, even we can admit that was pretty weak). Still, as prequels go, Assassin’s Creed Origins is pretty laudable.
Origins introduces RPG elements to the series, which has proven to be a somewhat controversial move, but it also features one of the most beautiful open worlds across all of Ubisoft’s oeuvre, as well as a surprisingly effective story that does a great job of characterising its leads and supporting cast.
14. Rayman Origins
After getting shunted to the back of the line thanks to the Rabbids taking centre stage, Rayman was looking a little desperate when 2011 rolled around. Thankfully, Rayman Origins did a lot of hard work to put him back on his rightful throne.
There aren’t any tricks or gimmicks here; Rayman Origins is an excellent, straightforward platformer with a tightly-tuned difficulty curve and a beautiful 2D art style. The music, too, is top-notch; Rayman Origins has perhaps one of the most underrated soundtracks in the gaming world.
13. South Park: The Stick of Truth
South Park video games have historically been a doomed prospect. Before The Stick of Truth, they were pretty much universally terrible, largely thanks to an apparent lack of quality control on the part of the developers and publishers.
Thankfully, Stick of Truth ended that losing streak by being a really rather good Paper Mario-inspired RPG full of great references and jokes that fans of the show will appreciate. It’s perhaps not the most sophisticated game in the world, but if you’re a South Park fan, you’re almost certainly going to adore it.
12. Far Cry 2
Cards on the table: Far Cry 2 is weird. If you’ve come to the series through more recent entries, there’s a very good chance you’re not going to like it, because it’s not for the faint of heart.
Ubisoft’s usual accommodate-all-comers approach hasn’t been adopted here; Far Cry 2 hates you, and its jungle feels like the most hostile and alien setting in the series as a result. Your guns will jam, you’ll have to deal with the onset of malaria, and you’ll constantly be confused about where you’re supposed to go next. What’s not to love?
11. Watch Dogs: Legion
We might come under fire for this one, because Watch Dogs: Legion is the definition of a curate’s egg. If, however, you can appreciate its more immersive sim-inspired direction, then you’ll love it, even though it’s certainly baggy and unfocused.
Watch Dogs: Legion doesn’t feature a fixed protagonist; instead, it lets you collect characters yourself, each of whom will have different strengths and weaknesses. You’ll then use those skills to explore a number of open-ended stealth challenges, accomplishing objectives in whatever manner you see fit.
10. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is, without a doubt, the most popular Rainbow Six video game of all time. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is the best one in the series. There is one that happens to be one of the best Ubisoft games of all time, though.
If you are looking for a fantastic single-player tactical shooter experience, then you should try Rainbow Six: Vegas. Both Vegas 1 and 2 are great. But the first one stands out thanks to its originality and missions. The game mixed the tactical edge of the Rainbow Six series that made the franchise universally known with the ideas of popular shooters.
9. Valiant Hearts: The Great War
Valiant Hearts is not just a game; it is art. This game is an educative game, and why do I say that? Because this game teaches us about WWI without resorting to being a first-person shooter like Call of Duty or Battlefield.
Valiant Hearts is far from being the most popular Ubisoft game ever released. It also happens to be one of the best Ubisoft games and the most experimental by a wide margin. The emotionally moving narrative is one of the things that made this game like no other. After playing this game, you will want to play more titles like this one.
8. Child of Light
2014’s Child of Light is a platform role-playing video game that stands out thanks to its beautiful graphics and mesmerizing art style. This is also one of the most experimental titles in the Ubisoft catalog. The hybrid combat system, along with the astonishing world, combine perfectly to give us a unique experience.
Fans of this game are still waiting for a prequel, but sadly, it is very improbable that they will release it. But Child of Light is definitely a video game everyone should play or try at least once. It’s one of the best Ubisoft games and one of the most underrated.
7. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
Assassin’s Creed 3 was a good game, but it lacked the same originality as the previous games. After a game like Assassin’s Creed 2, you need a sequel as good as the second entry, and sadly, the third part wasn’t what we expected.
But when Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was released, the series received more fans than before thanks to the pirate themes, the open world, and the ship traversal. Black Flag is usually considered one of the best entries in the franchise and an almost perfect pirate game at the same time.
6. Rayman Legends
Rayman is a legendary video game franchise, and when Rayman Origins was announced, old-school gamers went crazy. The game was released to critical acclaim, but the sequel, Rayman Legends, received even more acclaim. It is considered one of the best Ubisoft games ever released.
The game takes you to the good old days when gaming was simpler and more enjoyable, without being a kids-only video game. Rayman Legends gives us some of the best level design you could find in any platformer video game with also Metroidvania influences. All of that makes it one of the best Ubisoft games of all time.
5. Beyond Good & Evil
Beyond Good & Evil is one of those video games that are much better than we remember. And while the game is not as commercially successful as many other Ubisoft video games, this game received widespread critical acclaim and is usually considered one of the best games ever.
In this game, we follow Jade as she tries to reveal a sinister alien conspiracy, and while playing, we can control other allies, fight enemies, solve puzzles, and more. We are still waiting for a second part; it is currently on development, but we still have faith about it.
4. Far Cry 3
The Far Cry series is one of the most famous and most-played video game franchises created by Ubisoft. The first two games were great, and the Instincts remakes were also enjoyable, but when Ubisoft released Far Cry 3 back in 2012, the franchise exploded into relevance.
This was the entry that made Far Cry known by almost everybody, and is usually considered the best Far Cry game to date. One of the things that makes this game so good is the villain Vaas Montenegro. Vaas, portrayed by Michael Mando, received critical acclaim, and the mechanics of this game are top-notch.
3. Assassin’s Creed 2
While there are more than ten Assassin’s Creed video games, almost every fan of the franchise usually considers Assassin’s Creed 2 as the best video game of the series. It is also cited as the game that brought the series to mainstream popularity. So, of course, it is one of the best Ubisoft games of all time.
This 2009 video game was groundbreaking at the time, and while many other Assassin’s Creed video games can bring something new, Assassin’s Creed 2 will remain the peak and the best game of this loved franchise. Ezio Auditore, the game’s protagonist, is also considered the face of the Assassin’s Creed series.
2. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
When Ubisoft decided to reboot the Prince of Persia series back in 2001, everybody expected a good game. But they gave us something beautiful and unique.
2003’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time received universal acclaim, and while Ubisoft gave us a second and a third part, the first game is by far the best one. It’s one of the best video games of all time. While this game was released almost 21 years ago, The Sands of Time is still better than most games released not long ago.
1. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
If you think about stealth games, the Splinter Cell series will be the first franchise of video games that will come to your mind, and while this franchise doesn’t have bad games, Chaos Theory was the one that took the series to new levels.
The graphics were amazing at the time, the physics were perfect, the missions were immersive, and the game had a challenging but fair difficulty. Chaos Theory was splendid, and the best thing is that the game felt authentic, original, and astonishing. We are still waiting for a new Splinter Cell game that can be as good as Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.
