As all gamers know, the first quarter of the year is usually pretty dead when it comes to new releases. The year of 2024 is no different. However, this isn’t to say there aren’t some gems worth picking up this month. Titles that have everything from; supervillains, pirates, fantasy, and old rivalries are in the lineup this February. If a player has a limited window to have a few rounds, then this curated list will help with which games are worth investing in.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League
Even though Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League has had a bit of a rough development cycle, it finally dropped on February 2nd for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Developer Rocksteady cemented its reputation within the video game industry through its Batman Arkham games. However, Suicide Squad has a very different format than the Batman games, with the former being a live-service offering. This looter-shooter will have seasons coming in to keep the action going perpetually. Players will take control of; Harley Quinn, King Shark, Captain Boomerang, and Deadshot with other playable characters, such as the Joker, planned as future content. Fans of the DC Universe will no doubt will want to check this out, just to see the cameos alone.
Skull and Bones
Skull and Bones is yet another game with a controversial development lifespan. Being crafted for over seven years with different directors, revisions, and reformatting, it is finally dropping for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 16th. In fact, Ubisoft will be launching an Open Beta from February 8th to 11th. If players enjoyed the naval warfare feature of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, then Skull and Bones should be on their radar. This game is an open-world, RPG that will have co-op options and endless content drip-feeding into the seas for years to come.
Mario Vs. Donkey Kong
Sometimes, what’s old becomes new again. This latest edition of Mario Vs. Donkey Kong will be available for the Nintendo Switch on February 16th. This is an action-puzzler where Mario must navigate through a series of enigmas to retrieve the toy mini-Marios that Donkey Kong stole. Furthermore, this game also has a co-op feature where players can take control of Toad to help out with real head-scratchers. The puzzles come in many different forms where players can take control of Mario himself, or guide the mini-Marios to their destination. Thus, every world ends with a battle with Donkey Kong. So, when it comes to platformers and puzzlers, you can’t go wrong with Mario.
Helldivers 2
Even though the first game was grossly overlooked, Arrowhead Game Studios is now offering a second installment with Helldivers 2. This game will be a squad-based third-person shooter in which you will be fighting hordes of giant insectoids on desolate planets. Even though this game has a sci-fi flavoring to it, the shooting mechanics are well-realized and weighty. Everything from friendly fire to realistic ballistics, Helldivers 2 can give even the most ardent gaming veteran a run for their money. It will be available for PlayStation 5 and PC on February 8th.
Nightingale
Even though the crafting-survival sub-genre is slowly overtaking the industry, Nightingale has all the hallmarks to be something special. You will be an adventurer known as a ‘Realmwalker’ endlessly exploring the ‘Fae Realms’ in search of loot and friends. You will be able to build homes and entire fortresses to call your own with a rather elaborate crafting system. This game has been in development by Inflexion Games for several years and it is nice to know that it’s finally coming this month. Nightingale will be coming to PC on February 22nd.
Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth
Lastly, we can’t go without mentioning the continuation of the Final Fantasy VII remake. Hence, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth will still have the real-time combat and RPG features that its predecessor had. This is the second of a trilogy of games that are planned by Square Enix. Hopefully, the third installment won’t take as long to develop. It has been four years since players last took control of Cloud and company, and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth will finally be available on February 29th for the PlayStation 5.
Conclusion
The aforementioned list is some of the most well-crafted titles that will be available during February 2024. Some notable mentions are the Tomb Raider Trilogy Remastered for the; PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC on February 14th. Thus, Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance on February 21st for PC. Finally, Sons of the Forest is coming out on February 22nd for PC, as well. Needless to say, there’s a little bit of everything dropping this month that can bring in hefty hours of happy gaming.
